Like the famous childrens book "Give A Mouse A Cookie..." by Laura Joffe Numeroff and Illustrator Felicia Bond, "cookies" are often used by advertisers and Web analytic firms on most all web sites. They place "tracking cookies" on your computer. And like the book, the mouse will "ask for a glass of milk..." you can [...]

A hundred years ago, Willis Carrier received a patent for a system to cool the air inside a building and control its humidity at the same time. It was the first modern air-conditioner. In my last blog post, I mentioned that I would be giving my talk at "The New New Internet, Web 2.0 Accelerator" while wearing a gorilla costume. Now that this event has taken place, I feel I should give some explanation and photographic evidence. Here I am in costume backstage. I'm dressed as a "Zombie Vampire [...]

I'm totally jazzed by all the submissions on CoolSW and one of my daily pleasures, other than an extra-hot vanilla latte, is spending time looking over new posts and reading the discussions from YOU -- the user community. Discovering new applications from the software world puts a smile on my face. And sometimes I find something [...]

I'm a bit of a photo wonk. It probably started when I was about 12 or 13 with my first roll-film twin-lens reflex camera. You know, the kind that you look DOWN into the viewfinder. I remember a visit to Maryland with my little camera and hanging out with Marty Torre in his darkroom. The magic [...]

Does CoolSW Differentiate Between Spam and Spamming?

By David Mckinney Jr (Intel) (13 posts) on October 31, 2007 at 10:33 am

Several of you ask me this question. Spam is somewhat subjective. In giving most people the benefit of the doubt, often the spammer doesn't think they are spammers and we generally leave that up to the CoolSW community to decide with the bury feature. We may delete users who blatantly and consistently submit obvious spam. [...]

As the momentum continues with submissions and votes on CoolSW, many of you are building up a network of friends which enables you to collectively find cool software together. As a result you are likely getting a number of email “vote” notifications. I’ve received questions about those vote notification emails from coolsw@intel.com. If you [...]

Came across a company call Seriosity, they had incorporated Gaming principles into Email for making work fun. You can send a email with 5 Serios (Serios the digital money) to your peer to answer a question, and needing a quick response from you manager you can send them a email with 20 Serios. This principle puts the [...]
