I am listening to a keynote on Taking Search to New Frontiers by Dr Harry Shum, Microsoft VP for Search at the www conference. He is speaking about why keyword based search is not going to work in the todays web world of rich media With the explosion of photo and video content there is a need for search to encompass all kinds of content. He did interesting demos on research products at Microsoft showing image search, relationship based search and location based/contextual search. With MIDs usage increasing these advancements in search are even more critically needed.
The semantic web is coming our way, the ability for web searches to understand what the user is looking for vs what is typed in. I am interested in knowing your thoughts on the semantic web? Is this truly achievable?
Speaking of search, what has your experience been on using search on Intel Software Network?

I am positive about the way the virtual world is progressing into structured data searches, however, a truly semantic web is utopic. There is simply too much information and too few words to describe it. However, I think that it is the combination of more intelligent search techniques, tagging, and browsing combined that offers "semantic understanding" on the available information.
Cheers,
Kees
