Mobility: Best tech adoption story in an emerging market
One of the best technology adoption stories which spans the breadth of Indian society seems to be the mobile phones. Also, The rapid rate of adoption of Notebooks in the Indian corporate and Consumers is one of the fastest in the region. Corporate and Consumers are clearly going mobile and want their data and entertainment with them while wanting to stay connected.
The insatiable demand for broadband and the contrast of installed base is an interesting problem for service providers as they ramp their investments and service levels. At a WW level by end of 2007 there were over a Billion Internet users spending an average of about 30+ hrs per month online. One of the key transitions a good portion of the Indian 200M+ mobile phone adopters will undergo is the use of data services and access to internet for work and play.
As users start to demand more of the internet experience on their mobile devices, it creates new category of Mobile Internet devices which allow users to carry the internet in their pockets or purses
This category creates a very interesting opportunity for Software professionals to create applications for the new mobile platforms. It also creates a Software crisis as over Billion phones sold a year but today the opportunity to tap into it is highly fragmented.
With moblin.org we bring about an interesting platform where users can contribute openly and benefit from an open source platform. Moblin is a feature-rich open source software platform that delivers the “full internet” and media experience for mobile internet devices. It provides offers binary compatibility that allow applications to run seamlessly across the compliant OS offerings. I would invite the readers to visit the www.moblin.org and www.intel.com/software sites to get more of the info and create your mark in the new mobile ecosystem
